Testimonials don’t get much better than that from a couple in Surrey who had two Whitesales’ em.glaze flat glass rooflights installed in a new extension in their early 20th century end of terrace property.
The testimonial reads: ‘We always loved the house, yet hated the kitchen and how dark and small it was. Now, we honestly love it. It’s bright and spacious and our favourite part of the house. Our electrician added some LED lights around the rooflights so even at night, they’re still the focus of the room’.
Their 5.5m wide x 4m deep extension replaced an old utility room on the back of the house, transforming the kitchen into a light and airy space, complete with rooflights, bi-fold doors and a living green roof.
The Whitesales em.glaze rooflights were specified by the couple’s architect, One World Design, in response to their brief which was to bring as much as light as possible into the north facing rear of the house.
The couple added
‘The kitchen and the garden face north, so previously the rear of the house was always gloomy. This affected the whole of the ground floor. We were chatting to one of our neighbours about the build and they said they had decided against doing the same thing a few years ago because they thought the finished result would be too dark. Now that they have seen how good our kitchen looks, they have just signed off their plans ready to build something very similar’.
Green roof
The whole extension was completed over a four month period, with Whitesales supplying the em.glaze rooflights direct to site for installation by builders Heronlake Construction. The living roof, which has since become a haven for bees, was added after the rooflights by the specialists at Green Roofing.

Em.glaze Premium rooflights are held in stock in anthracite grey in 14 standard sizes on a 3-5 day delivery time or are available to order in a range of bespoke colours and sizes.
