kestrel powder coating at the seaside

Chris Mansfield

Qualicoat UK & Ireland has officially awarded its prestigious Seaside licence to long-standing member, Kestrel Powder Coating.  While standard Qualicoat licensing provides quality assurance across the entire powder coating process, the Seaside specification is engineered for more challenging, exposed locations.

The key technical requirement of the Seaside specification is that the system passes additional corrosion testing;  in order to achieve this the applicator must increase their etch to achieve at least double the standard Qualicoat requirement of 1g/sm of metal removal from the aluminium surface during pre-treatment.  The Seaside specification requirement removes more surface contaminants and therefore creates a more robust pre-treatment for areas where atmospheres carry corrosive salts and other aggressive pollutants.

To secure the licence, Kestrel proved through strict processes and monitoring that it consistently achieves the 2g/sm etch rate, and produced coated samples that passed the additional, independent testing.

“We are pleased to award Kestrel Powder Coating the Seaside specification licence,” says chair of Qualicoat UK & Ireland Chris Mansfield.  “As an established member, Kestrel has continuously demonstrated high operational standards.  Attaining the Seaside classification is a significant milestone that provides customers with complete assurance that Kestrel’s finishes meet the highest standards available and can withstand the toughest conditions.”

Qualicoat UK & Ireland strongly advises specifiers, architects and fabricators to specify Seaside class powder coating for any projects located within 5km of the coast and tidal estuaries.
