Operation Christmas Child

Unique Windows is helping out Santa to make sure children across the globe get a present on Christmas Day.

With the festive season rapidly approaching, the team at Unique Window Systems has entered into the spirit of Christmas with staff from across the business supporting Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child, which has been held annually since 1990, is a charity campaign which aims to ensure children disadvantaged by circumstances outside of their control, such as conflict and poverty, still have presents to open on the big day. It was developed and is managed by international relief organisation, Samaritan’s Purse. It invites people to fill up special shoe box sized gift boxes which are then distributed to children in need around the world.

Those supporting the campaign can choose whether to donate to a boy or girl from three different age groups - 2 to 4 years old, 5 to 9 years old and 10 to 14 years old.

People are encouraged to donate items such as toys, games, craft materials, educational resources and musical instruments. They can also include a personalised note or Christmas greeting to the eventual recipient.

Operation 1

This is the first time the Unique team has lent its support to Operation Christmas Child and in total 15 separate gift boxes were collated.

The company’s involvement was instigated by its ‘Culture Committee’ which is an eclectic group of employees representing all levels and all departments of the business. It aims to facilitate employee engagement and to help the manufacturer deliver on its Corporate Social Responsibilit policies.

Every month, the committee chooses a different charity or initiative to promote and support. To date it has helped the team at Unique to get behind such important causes as breast cancer awareness and men’s mental health. Carmen Morey, HR Manager at Unique and a member of the Culture Committee, says: “The response to Operation Christmas Child across the business has been fantastic. Everyone wanted to get involved because they recognise the importance of thinking of others during the festive period.

“The age of the eventual recipients of the donations only strengthened this willingness to take part.

“Christmas is a time for children and so there was a real desire to help in the hope it could spread some much-needed festive joy.”

Unique showcases capabilities in new video

Meanwhile, Unique Window Systems is offering an exclusive look behind the scenes of its business. The fabricator of PVC-U and aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling has launched a new video which showcases its operations and its capabilities. It also offers a glimpse of the company’s impressive fabrication plant and technology which has been built up through a sustained and long-term programme of inward investment.

Building relationships

Mir Patel, from Unique’s senior management team, says: “We are proud of the journey Unique has taken over the last 19 years and of the business we have subsequently become.

“Given this pride in our achievements and our belief in building strong personal relationships, we always welcome customers to visit our Leicester site. This allows them to develop a first-hand appreciation of the scale and technologically advanced nature of our facilities and we have even created a dedicated visitor centre to help host our guests.

“We recognise however that given the geographical spread of our customer base and the many other demands on their time that visiting us to take the ‘factory tour’ isn’t always easy. “The launch of our latest video gets around that and enables customers and other key contacts to explore everything we have to offer at a time and from a remote location that suits them. “This approach mirrors the ‘make it happen’ attitude that is commonplace across our business and that has been so instrumental in driving our continuing success.”
