Broken Homes Fixed With Steel

Steel screens have an old fashioned look but are bang on trend for broken-plan installations.

Broken-plan homes are popular as they give the appearance of more space using internal screens. Steel is the perfect material as it is strong and sturdy and allows for plenty of natural light flow.

A steel internal door is ideal for replacing a non-load bearing wall between the living area and kitchen for example - and although it might have that 'old fashioned' look, it will be bang on trend.

Although most popular between a living room and kitchen, any two spaces can be divided with steel screens. The internal partition can be made from steel windows and steel doors to allow design flexibility and practical functionality.

Door thresholds are not necessary, so the finished floor is uninterrupted.

In the bathroom

Steel framed windows can also be used as shower screens in the bathroom, maximising the amount of natural light into the shower cubicle.  And, as weather seals can be employed to ensure a fully waterproof enclosure, it’s a great alternative to a shower curtain.

Energy and environment

With plenty of design options available, steel windows can be used in a number of ways throughout the home. Each structure offers solidity without being overpowering and exposes more areas of the home to sun light, reducing the amount of blue light used and allowing homeowners to reap the benefits of natural light, such as improvement in productivity, a boost in Vitamin D, and a lower costing energy bill.

Slim profile

W20 profiles are the preferred choice when it comes to internal screens. The glazing bars are a mere 28mm wide leaving the biggest area possible for glass between them, opening up the most passages for natural light to enter a space. Internal steel screens are highly versatile and can include windows or doors up to a height of 2.4m.

Steel Window Association

Members of the Steel Window Association offer a UK wide service for the repair and replacement of various types of old metal windows, doors and screens, as well as being able to manufacture new fenestration which fully meets the requirements of the Building Regulations.
