Vanstone In the Chair

Jon Vanstone of Certass, the window installer competent person scheme, will become chair of the National Home Improvement Council UK in July 2023.

Vanstone will work closely with chief executive Anna Scothern to drive forward the organisation representing the entire repair, maintenance, and home improvement (RMI) sector in the UK.

One of the areas that Vanstone holds strong views on is competence, which is a key focus of the new Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and one of the NHIC’s key focal points in its 2023/24 manifesto. He has gained his insight, thanks to his various positions at government level).

Vanstone says: “It’s a privilege to be voted in to lead the NHIC during this period of transformation for the retrofit and construction sectors. The introduction of the BSR brings massive change to how buildings are maintained and managed, putting new pressure on ensuring best practice and proving competency, not just of those on the tools but also the companies they work for.

“The NHIC’s 5Cs of repair, maintenance and home improvement: Carbon, Consumer, Compliance, Competency and Connection sets out a strong pathway to supporting members to have a better understanding of the changes that are coming, and I am proud to be supporting them.”

Anna Scothern says: “Jon’s appointment comes at a vital point for the NHIC and the sector as a whole. His expertise and experience around competency, compliance and quality will deliver unique benefits to NHIC members and those who serve, support, and supply domestic RMI professionals.”
