ODL Europe has completed another round of testing on its Guardsman FD30 fire door. The results are very good indeed, with the door exceeding a 60-minute burn time.

UKAS was responsible for the Accredited Fixed Scope test to BS EN 1634-1, which covers fire resistance and smoke control for doors. BS EN 1634-1 is the more demanding test standard required by part B of the building regulations and the tests were comprehensive.

The tests covered various glazed and unglazed doorsets, further expanding the range of construction methods and glazing options that can be used with Guardsman to achieve a certified 30-minute fire door set.

“We wanted the Guardsman to deliver on performance without compromising on style,” says ODL Europe`s Bultema. “By testing various construction options, we can give customers, contractors and specifiers more design choice.”

Guardsman is the result of a two-year, six figure development by ODL Europe in conjunction with Capstone Engineering. It’s constructed using Agrifiber, which is stronger and more stable than the phenolic foam used in most other composite fire doors. It features a 2mm GRP skin so it’s low maintenance and robust enough to stand up to high-traffic areas, reducing maintenance and replacement costs. Add in PAS24:2016 certification, BS6375 certification and a 25-year structural guarantee and you have a fire door that ticks all the boxes.
