Sunset Integrated Blinds has opened an insulated glass unit production facility in Enfield, north London, manufacturing sealed units with integral blinds for window and door fabricators in London and the South East.
The Enfield plant runs a complete IGU line — glass washing, press and hot melt sealing — using toughened glass from processors in the surrounding area. The blind systems themselves are manufactured at the company's own factory in Istanbul, which has been producing integrated blind units, aluminium systems and veranda structures since 1986, and are shipped to Enfield as kits for assembly.
That structure is unusual in the UK market. Every other significant integral blind supplier in Britain buys its blind system from an Italian manufacturer and assembles it into glass domestically. Sunset makes the system itself.
"Every other integral blind supplier in Britain buys its system from Italy," says Timuçin Tuncay, founder of Sunset Integrated Blinds. "We make ours. That takes a link out of the chain — it changes what we can do on price, on colours and specials, and on how quickly we can respond to a fabricator who needs something that is not standard."
"It also puts manufacturing in London. Integral blinds have been supplied into the capital from elsewhere in the country for years. We think there is room for a supplier that is inside the M25."
The company supplies Venetian and pleated integral blind units in manual and motorised versions and a range of slat colours, for windows, bi-folding and sliding doors, partitions and door vision panels. Units are argon-filled with a double seal.
