Dalton’s Weekly Crisis Challenge

The umbrella organisation representing the interest of high energy users, the Energy Intensive User Group,  has appointed the CEO of British Glass, Dave Dalton as Chair. Dalton says he will focus every week whilst the UK faces an energy crisis.

Dalton has over 40 years of experience in the glass industry. The change in chair comes at a challenging time with unprecedented energy costs and a crucial six months that will determine whether some energy intensive companies can continue to manufacture in the UK or export production abroad. Many energy intensive sectors and subsectors have already relocated but those products are still imported into the UK for use.

Dalton has taken over from Richard Leese of the Mineral Products Association and will be supported by British Glass Federation Manager Jenni Richards as co-chair during the two-year term.

“Energy intensive industries like the glass sector need competitively priced, reliable and sustainable energy supplies in order to keep processes running. At present, this is simply not the case and the cost to our sector could be very high.”

Energy strategy

“The government needs to act quickly and decisively and we are here as a group to hold them to account,” continues Dalton. “Over the next two years as EIUG Chair I hope we can work with government bodies to ensure a long-term energy strategy that will enable and incentivise energy intensive sectors to decarbonise and remain internationally competitive so that we can continue to manufacture in the UK, contributing to UK GDP and supporting jobs and communities across the industrial heartlands.”
