Wedding Bliss

Overlooking the breathtaking Lligwy Beach, a new luxury wedding venue, The Anglesey Barn, has been brought to life with timeless heritage and with modern design. It is up for Top Commercial Project at the G-Awards.

This one-of-a-kind venue features windows and doors from The Residence Collection’s R7 and R2 systems, installed in partnership with fabricator M&G Windows and installer Dekko Windows.

Aluminium gets the boot

Originally specified in aluminium, the development team transitioned to The Residence Collection after reassessing the design, performance and sustainability goals of the project. The R7 and R2 systems deliver the same clean, flush aesthetic associated with aluminium, while providing significantly improved thermal performance. With U-values as low as 1.2 W/m2K using double glazing, these products exceed current building regulations and reduce long-term energy demands which was essential in a project aiming for luxury, comfort and sustainability.

Welsh weddings

Located on a working farm, the venue’s transformation is a tribute to the region’s rich agricultural and cultural history. Now, the beautifully restored Dutch Barn, accompanied by luxurious guest accommodations, has been designed to host weddings for up to 150 guests.

Every property on-site features Residence Collection R7 and R2 systems, finished externally in Eclectic Grey to complement the timber cladding, and internally in Grained White to provide a clean, neutral interior perfect for personalised wedding décor.

Despite the different functions and styles of the buildings, the use of shared design elements such as square beading and the Radlington cill ensures visual consistency and unity across the development. The interchangeable components across the Residence systems also helped streamline the fabrication and installation process.

The decision to use The Residence Collection was not purely aesthetic. All windows and doors meet PAS24 certification and comply with BS6375 Parts 1, 2 and 3, covering weather resistance, operational performance and structural strength. With a 75mm frame depth, the R7 system features seven chambers for improved thermal, acoustic and structural performance. The R2 system complements this by offering the same flush external finish but with a sleek internal square detail designed to replicate the modern look of aluminium.

Sustainability

Sustainability was also a driving factor in product selection. The windows and doors include reinforcement made from 100% recycled PVC and the entire profile can be recycled up to 10 times, aligning with the project’s long-term sustainability goals.

While the bespoke nature and volume of the project introduced fabrication challenges, the schedule was met through phased delivery and additional staffing.

Tony Allen from M&G Windows says: “The Residence Collection gave us the flexibility to preserve the charm and context of these historic buildings, while delivering a sleek, high-performance finish that suited our vision perfectly. This wasn’t just about aesthetics, it was about creating a lasting, sustainable space that honours the heritage of the site.”

Jo Trotman, the marketing manager at The Residence Collection, says: “This is a flagship project that showcases what can be achieved when heritage, design and performance come together. The Anglesey Barn is not just a venue, it’s an experience and we’re proud to have played a part in helping create something truly exceptional.”
