Secondary glazing specialists Selectaglaze has strengthened its manufacturing capabilities with the purchase of a second FMC 340 CNC machining centre from FOM Industrie, supplied by Haffner. The investment follows the successful installation of the company’s first FMC 340 in 2023.
Duncan Saunders, head of production at Selectaglaze, says: “The first FMC 340 has been a fantastic addition to our manufacturing operation, delivering the accuracy, reliability and efficiency we were looking for while helping increase automation across the factory. When the opportunity came to renew one of our older machines, investing in a second FMC 340 was the obvious choice.”
The decision was driven by Selectaglaze’s plans to create a more connected and efficient manufacturing environment. The business is developing a barcode system throughout the factory as part of its longer-term strategy to move towards a fully paperless production process.
Saunders says:: “The addition of the second FMC 340 gives us the platform to further develop our automation strategy. As we roll out our barcode system, our aim is to integrate manufacturing data, dimensions and cutting programmes directly into both machines, creating a more seamless workflow across production, improving efficiency and reducing the potential for errors.”
Haffner worked closely with the Selectaglaze team throughout the project, configuring the software to support the company’s future automation objectives and ensuring both machines are ready to operate as part of a fully integrated production environment.
The installation was completed with minimal disruption, with the machine installed, commissioned and fully operational within just two days.
Bryan Dando, commercial director at Haffner, says: “When a customer chooses to invest in the same machine for a second time, it speaks volumes about both the performance of the equipment and the support behind it. We are delighted that Selectaglaze has chosen Haffner as part of its ongoing automation strategy.”
